Why 92% of our New Year Resolutions Fail... by February.

My New Year Resolution? To follow through with my New Year’s resolution.

It’s that time of year again.
The Christmas holidays are drawing to a close, and 2021 is just around the corner. Many of us will be using this in-between period to reflect on the past year, and set goals for the next one.

Some will be looking to lose weight by exercising regularly and eating healthily. Others want to be more organised, spend less money, or quit smoking. They’re all great ideas, and everyone has big plans to transform their lives, but the harsh reality is that most people will be unsuccessful.

According to these stats, 92% of people who set New Year’s resolutions failed to achieve them... 78% of them by February.

Ninety two percent! That’s a pretty big portion of people.

But why is that? The reason is simple: Too little commitment for too intangible goals. We see the summit but we don’t see the hike. And then give up.

A core part of the “Bucketlistology” (the coaching principles behind the Bucket List concept) is therefore to break this pattern. As a Certified Bucket List Coach®, I want you to become part of this 8%. I want you to not only dream of your best life but to actually live it.

How? In all my Bucket List programs we take these big intangible goals and break them down into tangible bites. Like little success benchmarks that will give you a sense of achievement along the way and keep your motivation ongoing.

Because: How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
Want some more tips to set goals that you can actually achieve?

  • Set S.M.A.R.T. goals - specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-based

  • Make a plan, not just a goal. You can then change the plan but never the goal.

  • Accountability is key. Team up with an accountability buddy to make sure you

both stick to the goals you set for yourselves.

And last but not least: Make sure you know your WHY. Set goals because you really want to achieve them, not because someone else wants you to. Set goals that are in line with your values, beliefs and bigger vision for life.

Not sure what your WHY is? Then join my next Bucket List workshop/ Life Plan and let me help you to discover your WHY.

So cheers to those empty gyms in February and a Happy New Year!
